Business moves at a breakneck pace. Every day, there’s more to do and less time to do it. This is not merely perception, it’s reality! A quick look at the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ annual index of labor productivity for wireless and wireline telecommunications carriers reveals that since 1987 (the first year for which this metric is available for our industry) through 2020, productivity has increased nearly 40-fold (a 3,946% increase to be precise) – and, as witnessed by the chart below, it has been accelerating.

Sources: BLS Annual index of labor productivity (2007=100) for NAICS 517312, wireless telecommunications carriers (except satellite), U.S. total overlayed with Index/Level and Office of Productivity And Technology and Productivity: Business.
On one hand that’s impressive, especially if you consider overall U.S. business productivity in that same period has grown a “mere” 193%. On the other hand, with so much to do, it’s important to resist the temptation to jump right-in to the next project without giving it the proper degree of thought. When you’re this busy, it’s important to work smarter (and, of course, harder). That means taking a step back to prioritize activities and create a strategy before taking the plunge into the next project (or worse, taking a reactive stance in a futile attempt to try to keep all the plates spinning). These approaches are like putting the cart in front of the proverbial horse.

At CORE. we listen to your situation and priorities, partnering to create a strategy to address your needs
When an independent broadband provider was acquired by a private equity firm, they had fallen behind on data migration to the target system. Core Network Solutions was brought-in to evaluate the situation, assess the data and create a realistic data migration plan. We baselined an achievable project, adjusted expectations –and, were later trusted to execute and deliver on the plan. Since the successful completion, we have been engaged by the same PE firm to evaluate, plan and execute several similar provider clean-up and integration projects.
Pace of business accelerating?
Make sure your planning process properly prioritizes activities, leaving room for key strategic projects that will move the needle (not just oiling squeaky wheels).
